Blower motor went out after a year and half
We bought a new home with this range hood installed and we loved it at first. Then, after about a year and a half, it starting making some odd noises. The blower motor had died.
I check the warranty, and it was only 1 year. The replacement motor? Over $400.
For the price of this hood, I would expect it to last at least 10 years. Very disappointed.

Well built, good value
All exposed surfaces are nicely finished. No sharp edges, and I appreciate the rounded profile that spreads the force when I bump my head on it. The blower very effectively captures the smoke and odor from stir-frying at 22,000 BTUs. As expected, there is a lot of air noise at 600 cfm as the air rushes through the baffles and into the internal blower. At low speed, the predominant noise is a hum (almost a buzz) from the variable-frequency motor and controller. Much quieter than at high speed, but still annoying over time, say when simmering a soup.
The controls are the weakest point. A three-position rocker switch for the lights would make a lot more sense than a three position knob that I often twist the wrong direction. Also, the low setting is pretty much useless with LED lights because they flicker very perceptibly. Something more sophisticated than a diode to chop out half of the AC cycle would be appreciated. Both the light and fan knobs feel a little cheap.
Customer service was very responsive when I had questions.

Excellent hood for large range
This hood draws well even when using a Wolf range with a grill. The hood is very loud at the highest setting, but a variable speed control allows you to set the draw at the lowest effective level. The two level lights illuminate the range top well. Simple clean design esthetic.

It is a high quality product
Well built and strong air volume when needed. Lights are nice and bright. I wish it came with a built in cleaner though!

looks great, easy installation, the only problem I see so far is that unfortunately the fan is way to loud. We had done some research on the appliance, and most said the fan was pretty quit, well it is way to loud.
I WISH I WOULD HAVE PUT A REMOTE FAN IN MY ATTACK, AND HAVE IT DUCT TO THE UNIT

Wonderful, professional-looking hood!
I wanted a professional looking hood but needed a recirculating option as I didn't have a way to vent the hood outside. Broan offered that option. The hood is awesome! It's effective at removing smoke and odor, isn't terribly loud and looks great. Very pleased with my purchase. My contractor installed the hood so I'm uncertain as to the ease of installation.

This is a great product with great features.
This product work great with the heat and odors being removed. There is only one thing wrong and that is that it resonates. With a little extra padding this stops the resonating. The fan speed is variable which works great if you only need it on low. There are two light features and with both on they put out a lot of light. The filters are easy to remove for cleaning and they go back in just as easy.

Can I "transition" the duct to a 6" or 8" from the 10", or does it have to be a 10" all the way through?
I vertically ducted my hood from the 3 1/4" x 10" to a 7" round duct. 7" to 8" is the recommended size duct if you are converting it to round.

cold air from outside coming in through the hood
I have the E6400 with a 1200CFM external blower. A lot of cold air is coming in through the hood. Very noticeable with the cold winter. Any idea what is causing this?
Thank you for your question on the model E6448TSS range hood. If you are getting cold air back into the house from the range hood, make sure there is a proper working back draft damper installed at the roof, where the duct work exits the house. It would also help to have a back draft damper located in-line with the duct work, somewhat close to the range hood itself.

Is the Broan E6448TSS available ductless and blowerless?
Thank you for your question on the model E6448TSS range hood. The E6448TSS comes with a 1200 CFM internal blower only. It can be installed either ducted to the outside or non-ducted using the optional model ANKE60482SS non-duct kit. The model E64E48SS is a similar hood that does not come with an internal power unit and can use a number of different in-line or externally mounted blowers. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 if you need further assistance.

Can I convert (add an internal fan) to an E64E unit?
Thank you for your question on the model E64E series range hood. There are no provisions to add an internal blower to the E64E series range hood. You must either use a remotely located in-line blower or an outside mounted blower.
