Rated 1 out of 5 by jake10987 Brand new kitchen ruined by this poor product.
We bought this after online research. We were looking for a quiet blower. It's quiet, but that's because it sucks at sucking. My advice use Broan in bathrooms, not in kitchens.

Replaced existing hood with Broan rp130bl after extensive research of most products available within price range and specs desired. Perfect for this chef's newly remodeled home kitchen; enough power, low sones, complimentary to black appliances, easy install (However, it is a 2-man job to set the unit so as to feed electric wiring and secure to bottom of cabinet.
Two things: Check that the flapper may need trimming to open all the way prior to setting the unit (The thin aluminum can be easily trimmed with scissors). The bulb sockets are a hassle to set and twist bulbs into. Try this when using 120 volt LED bulbs: Cut a piece of thin coat hanger wire about 3/4" greater than the diameter of bulb and bend on each end about 1/2" so you have a big 'staple' with short legs. Next drill holes same as wire diameter slightly back from edges of bulb (LED bulb casing is plastic). Insert 'staple' and set bulb feet into socket use staple to twist bulb into position. You will have to adjust the leg bends to fit the drilled holes, but no worries. Anyhow, that's what I came up with.

Rated 4 out of 5 by WestWAHomerOwner Good price for good hood, but you will need tin snips!
Hood looks nice and functions well. There were some manufacturing defects that made installation difficult. No where on the Broan web site does it say a cord is not included with the unit. I assumed it did and was quite frustrated to have to order this and wait another week for the hood to have power. All new construction has an outlet in the cabinet over the range, not a wired connection. No where do the specs mention the cord gauge or amps so to be safe you have to order this from Broan. The vertical and power cord knockouts were very hard to remove. I recommend using a Dremmel tool to to cut the connection points to avoid damaging the hood. The internal black fan housing did not align with the hood exterior shell and I had to use tin snips (metal cutting scissors) to make the duct connector fit inside the knockout. Be sure to test the damper flap swing radius after you attach the 3.25 x 10 vent stack. The flap opens 90 degrees, but not if it is blocked by the interior sides of the stack. I had to cut the edges off of the flap for full swing and maximum CFM air flow. I bet many of these hoods have been installed without checking this. Instructions should include a WARNING about this. Overall, for the price this is a good deal and pulls a lot of CFM for a guy like me who cooks a lot with my stove. It pulls so many CFM it ventilates my kitchen, dining room and large living room. Good deal, but be prepared for a fussy installation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fudman Great value for a pro-style hood.
Can't comment on the installation hassles. My contractor put mine in. I do agree with the bulb installation issues. Difficult but not impossible. I used tape to make a small "handle" on the bulb face. I then inserted the bulb into the socket and used the tape to turn the bulb and then removed the tape. But the vent hood is very attractive and performs well. The fan is a bit loud but not overly loud. All in all, a great value.
I am ordering another one to replace my model 88000.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Carol29 This hood has a nice "upgraded" pro look and is great for a kitchen remodel but beware of lurking installation issues.
The hood looked great after installation, but getting it there was another story. First, the screw holes provided in the top of the unit are way too large. Then the screws that came with it were too short due to an offset on the bottom of our cabinet. Ultimately we had to drill our own holes thru the vent hood body & provide our own screws in order to successfully attach it to the bottom of the cabinet. Once it was installed, we worked off and on for two days trying to get the light bulbs installed. Problem is they're the same diameter as the hole they go thru so once in position, there is no way to grasp the light bulb and turn it into position. We finally gave up and called Broan. They sent a suction cup tool to install the bulbs. That item should have been included to begin with, along with the light bulbs which took two trips to the store to get the correct bulb. There are two different bulbs that look similar to the picture in the manual & their packages do not provide the detailed bulb number as shown in the manual. It would have been so much easier if they had just provided them. All in all, it's probably a good choice for a hood since it has an upgraded "pro" look & fits the standard space; however, the installation is not as easy as it should have been. Be sure you're prepared to deal with the issues.

Rated 4 out of 5 by oldhouselady7 Fan
We bought this Broan fan to use in the renovation of our 1911 kitchen. The fact that the controls were not on the front of the fan was of the utmost importance, since we encased the fan in wood. The fan could be a little quieter, but it pulls odors out of the kitchen nicely. Love the two-level lights, though they were a little hard to put in...not much room around them to hold on to the lights while installing. I'd give it 8 on a 10-point scale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Austxhandyman Broan 30" Range Hood rp130
My new Broan 30" Range Hood rp130 was shipped very quickly and arrived in excellent condition. With two people it's very easy to install. I took pictures of my old vent hood wiring connections and it made it much easier installing the new vent hood. The new Broan looks great and i'm very satisfied with my purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by RenovateDC Solid Sturdy Fan that Looks Great!
This is a great fan that has a very professional look to it. It is made of very sturdy stainless steel with clean lines, hidden controls, and no brand name affixed to the outside. I like the rocker switches more so than a knob that gives numerous variable speeds. It looks great in my kitchen and it was the right height to meet code with my new gas stove. The only issue is if you have 15 inch deep cabinets, as I do, all fans are made for 12 inch cabinets. You need to get a 3 inch metal covering fabricated for the space between the wall and the back of the fan. I wish Broan or someone else would make something like this to order so the contractor wouldn't have to special order.
