  • BROAN Solar Powered Attic Ventilators use energy from the sun to operate and require no additional electricity, which means you save up to $180 per year that you might pay to operate an electric powered attic ventilator, depending on your local electric rates, size of attic, climate, etc... Plus, you can save even more with a 30% Federal Tax Credit on both the purchase price and installation costs of your Solar Powered Attic Ventilator. Because BROAN Solar Powered Attic Ventilators operate without fuel, waste, or pollution, they earn points towards Green building. So you can save money on electricity without using any to do it, which is green for the environment, and puts some extra green in your wallet.

    • Gable mounting is used when it is not possible or desirable to mount the ventilator on the roof – and it means the ventilator is installed independent of the solar panel. Locate the flat solar panel where it can receive the best sunlight and position the ventilator portion vertically between studs; complete the installation with a Model 433 gable shutter that automatically open and close as the ventilator turns on and off
    • 28-watt solar panel captures sunlight from dawn to dusk and efficiently converts it into electric power to keep your attic cool and dry all day long, providing 537 Maximum CFM and year round protection for the structure of your home
    • 12” diameter, one-piece aluminum 5-blade fan is pitched for maximum air flow to keep your living area cooler, extend the life of your air conditioner and save energy and money
    • Compact base footprint means fewer shingles to cut for easier, faster installation
    • Low profile, integrated design for an attractive, unobtrusive addition to your roof without the need for props or pivoting stands used by some manufacturers
    • Rugged, tempered glass solar panel withstands large hail and won’t delaminate so you can be confident in its reliability, functionality and attractive appearance
    • Housing is a molded design of UV-stabilized, color-dyed, rugged ABS plastic that withstands hail and resists fading to remain attractive for years; may also be painted to match your roof color
    • Housing frame features positive stops to “seat” the dome for fast, easy installation
    • Direct-current, variable voltage motor is dynamically balanced for superior performance and silent operation for years of worry-free operation
    • Includes stainless steel fasteners and galvanized steel brackets for durability and corrosion resistance, and aluminum, heavy-gauge screen to keep out insects, animals or birds without impeding airflow
    • Optional thermostat is easy to install and disables the motor when the temperature dips below 50-degrees, to extend motor life; recommended for climates where cold weather condensation isn’t a concern

Solar Powered Attic Ventilation - Pittsburgh Today - Live KDKA TV

  • Effective attic ventilation requires air to exit at or near the peak of the roof and replacement air to be drawn in under the eaves of the house, via soffit venting. The Home Ventilating Institute (HVI) recommends that powered attic ventilators provide at least 10 air changes per hour to equalize attic temperature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install and works great. It lowered the heat in our home by 3-5 degrees on our hottest days. Making it much easier to cool in the evenings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fan and great customer service . . . I purchased one of these fans a year ago and something has caused it to stop running. I contacted them and they took great care of me by replacing it for no fees. Tammy the E-Data Coordinator was just great by taking the issue head on and sending my to their technical department where Chuck absolutely took care of the problem.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It failed in a month, but keep reading... Within a moth of operation the motor failed. Until then the unit operated as promised and did a great job of cooling the house (we live in Hawaii). After noticing the unit wasn't operating I called customer service which transferred me over to Trish in the tech department. She assessed the problem to be the motor. The new motor was back ordered until 8/1 and I received it on 8/4. I've yet to get up on the roof and install it, but I'm confident it will do the trick. I'll let you know. But the purpose of this revue is to commend the Broan team on their excellent customer service. I didn't have to send copies of my receipt, go up on the roof to pull the old motor out and pay to send it to them, or pay shipping on the new motor... no hassles at all! (In spite of the complex legalese in their warranty) I was treated with respect and they stand behind their product. This is the way customer service should be! Thanks, Trish, and the crew at Broan!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Powerful fan. Almost perfect product... This fan was a straightforward, simple install. It can move some serious air when the heat hits hard (100+ in my area)! I immediately noticed a big difference in my 1949 home. Unfortunately, after running for about two months, the fan stopped working because the bracing holding the motor got loose. The motor slid downward to the point where the fan blades started hitting the braces that attach the hood to the base. Eventually the fan blades got lodged against the bracing and the fan stopped moving. Luckily the motor did not burn out and I was able to shove in a couple of wedges and tie wraps to prevent this from happening again (see picture). This fan does run pretty hard so my guess is that the bracing wasn't tight enough coming from the factory. Other than that little issue, this is a great fan. A bit pricey for my taste but it's a simple DIY so it's worth the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reduced temp and humidity in Attic Very pleased with the vent. We had an issue with high humidity in the attic and the fan has helped to equalize the humidity with the outside and reduced the temp which is an added plus. The fan makes noise, but it cant be heard once you close the attic door. Great product. Lets see how long it lasts!

When I can't find prices I go to another site that is more informative. Not being able to quickly ascertain the price of an item is maddening when you are planning a big project. I don't have time for games!

Which way does the air flow on the housing.

It is not clear on the installation instructions if the wire housing needs to face towards the gable vent, or towards the inside of the attic. I guess what side faces towards the outside wall to get air flow pulling out.

We have one roof vent at each end of our 50 x 15 x 4 gable roof; no eave vents. Will this solar vent product work for us? Should we use a thermostat?

We live in So. Calif., and the home is 100 years old. Vents are on west and east ends of house, and positioned in direction of max. air flow. (Winds from the west.)
