Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just perfect After buying a home that the builder was unable to finish, we were missing the vent insert for the custom cabinets. There was also no venting to the outside. After discussing this with a construction professional from my office this is what he recommended. It works perfect! Great customer service too. I inadvertently ordered incorrectly. Customer service was great to work with and very pleasant.

  • Can the grill be painted on the job? How short can the ducting be?

I want to duct this through the front of a custom white painted wood hood facade. I want to make the facade only a total of 12" high and mount the grill on the front of the facade. I also want to paint the grill to match the white painted cabinetry and facade.

Thank you for your question on the model 356NDK range hood insert non-duct kit. You can actually come right off of the top of the insert with an elbow and duct straight out the front of the wood hood. You should be able to paint the grille as long as it is prepared properly. We would suggest taking it to a local, larger paint store and get their suggestion for primer and paint. You would also need to tell them what this grille is being used for.

Is it necessary to recirculate the air back into the room?

We have built a wooden hood with no vent anywhere. If the fan just blows air into a hollow space will this cause a problem?
    Asked by: Larry
Thank you for your question on range hoods. We always recommend either using a non-duct kit or completely ducting a built-in ventilation system to the outside. It is never a good idea to vent into a hollow space inside the house.

Do we need a vent in a custom built wood range hood?

We have a custom built wood range hood above our stove. It is a hollow area with no venting. Can we use the 356dnk inside this space or do we have to run it all the way into the attic?
    Asked by: Corey
Thank you for your question on range hoods and non-ducting kits. The availability of non-ducting kits would depend on the model number of the exhaust system. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 for assistance.

Can I have the exit to this recirculating kit into the attic instead of into the room?

    Asked by: kimit
Thank you for your question on the 356NDK. We do not recommend this, as there will be “steam” along with any other exhaust air, picked up during the cooking process. Unlike your kitchen space, where this moisture will evaporate, there is insulation in your attic that will absorb and hold this moisture. That is detrimental to the integrity of the insulation.
