Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product for the price. This is the first bathroom fan and light we purchased. This fan was replacing a light in our bathtub/shower. It was easy to fit in with some cutting of ceiling to fit the light. One that was done it was an easy fit. Since the installation was done the bathroom has been free of any steam and odors. Very pleased with the product and would recommend to anyone for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good The Broan ventilation fan does the job. Very good air movement and relatively quiet. Execllent product, I am very glad I purchased two for my bathrooms. The extra work to enlarge the previous cutouts was worth the effort.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall good product for the price. I am still in a quandary as to why "silent" fans cost so much more than fans that make a little noise. What part of the silent fan justifies the price increase?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 2.5 sones/no way This puppy is loud. MUCH louder than the sone comparison unit set up in the store. Like a jet starting to rev up. Two of the four mounting screw holes should be relocated. Good design (I've done it for 35 years) includes making things easy to mount/attach when you are not it the most comfortable position. I needed a 10" phillips extension. The exhaust flange interfered with my attempt at putting in 2 screws. It does seem to draw well although I purposely oversized it a bit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product was just what I was looking for. It was time to replace the vent in my powder room. The original fan was too noisy. I was looking for a quiet powerful fan. The display at the store I bought it in had a chart that described every model. This model seemed to have all the characteristics I wanted. After easy installation, I turned on the power and the sound was perfect, somewhat soothing compared to my old fan. I could also feel the circulation of the air, not too powerful and not too faint, it was just right. Love it! Going to buy the same to replace my master bath fan.

  • Can this unit be installed in a first floor ceiling with insulation in the ceiling?

    Asked by: Rich
Thank you for your question on the model 683 exhaust fan. This unit can be installed with insulation against the sides and on top of the unit housing, up to an R40 value. If you do not have access from above (attic or crawl space) you will probably need to tear out more ceiling than would normally be necessary and patch the ceiling after the installation.

    Model 683

Just purchased and installed your ventilation fan. It is noisy and vibrates the wall and makes a buzzing sound. What can I do to stop this? This is not my first rodeo.
    Asked by: Stu
Thank you for your question on the model 683. This model is rated at 2.5 sones and would be considered an intermediate model and an average sone rating. Please make sure you are using four inch rigid duct work, there are no obstructions in the duct work and the damper is opening when the fan is turned on. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 for further assistance.

    Quieter replacement fan options?

I have this model fan installed in my bathroom. My partner is interested in a quieter fan. I'm interested in not cutting any more holes in the ceiling. What replacement options do I have?
    Asked by: Brian
Thank you for your question on the model 683 exhaust fan. The only parts available for use in the 683 housing are the original replacement parts. If you need a quieter fan, you will have to totally remove the 683 from the ceiling and install a new unit. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 if you need further assistance.

Do you sell quieter fans with the same housing dimensions as 683 model?

Looking to replace it with a quiet model without cutting wider hole in the ceiling. Thanks!
    Asked by: Maria
Thank you for your question on the Broan 683. We are sorry, but we do not have another unit with the same can size that would be quieter. We do manufacture quieter exhaust fans but they would require a bigger opening. If you have further questions please contact Technical Support directly at 800-637-1453.

how do I lower the grille cover to clean it and change the light

    Asked by: need to clean
To remove the grille from the unit, first remove the lens by gently depressing the sides and pulling it down. Once you remove the light bulb, you will need to take off the nut in the center of the reflector. At this point, you will be able to lower the reflector and grille assembly.
