  • HD50 is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Broan Heavy Duty Exhaust Fan Great fan and extremely quiet! I replaced an old fan that was nicknamed the "coffee grinder" with this one. What a difference.

Thank you for your question on the model HD50 exhaust fan. The unit that we would recommend for the replacement of the HD50 would be the AE50.

    HD-50 for kitchen use

I bought an HD-50 and want to put it in my kitchen, but I noticed it says "not for use in the kitchen" on it. See photo. Can I use it in my kitchen? Thanks.
    Asked by: Jake
Thank you for your question on the model HD50 exhaust fan. The HD50 exhaust fan may not be located anywhere inside the area above the cooktop within a 45 degree angle from all four sides of the cooktop. For further assistance, please contact Technical Support at 800-637-1453.

how do i clean the fan; has a lot of buildup that is not easily accessible without taking the unit out completely.

    Asked by: paki
Thank you for your question on the model HD50 exhaust fan. The best way to thoroughly clean the unit is to remove the grille and the power unit assembly from the unit housing and put them on the table to clean. You can use an old toothbrush or other small brush to get the dust off of the unit and blower wheel. Please download the installation instructions from our web site to see how the unit is assembled or contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 for assistance.

can a fan "dimmer" speed control lower speed and noise?

Is the HD50 able to be switched by a Lutron fan speed control switch? (We run several HD50 units in our 2012-built house and it's great but less quiet than if we were to mess with drywall to swap it out...perhaps i could run it at slower speed, I was thinking.)

Thank you for your question on the Broan HD50. The fan motor on the Broan HD50 can be operated using a fan speed control. The Broan model 57W or 57V control was tested and can be used on this product. Please contact our Technical Support directly at 800-637-1453 on any other Brands of controls that can be used.

    Asked by: CHARLES
Thank you for your question on the HD80 ventilation fan. The HD80 was discontinued and there is no direct replacement for it. The suggested replacement is the model A80HD and it can be seen on the Broan website. The housing size is different, but the duct size will be the same so it is not an exact replacement.
