I live in freezing conditions. The external damper is freezing and letting in a lot of cold air. could i put an 8" damper inside the external housing to reduce the stream of cold air from entering? If so what would be a good product to get?

Thank you for your question on the model 509 through the wall exhaust fan. We have no provision for an additional damper inside the unit housing and there would not be enough room to add one.

The fan is now very noisy as well as no door opening power, considering buying replacement 12C, is there better model for kitchen stove exhaust? Was this defective from start?

Is there a way to have this wired to a switch, like a light switch that just controls the fan?

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 509S through the wall exhaust fan. The 509S is not designed for use above a tub or shower. The 509S does have a built-in on/off switch. The model 509 (without the “S”) is the same fan without the switch and is designed to operate from a wall switch. It's not suggested to install this high CFM fan above the shower because it will pull all the heat from the shower and the occupant will be very cold. Please contact Technical Support for other possible options to adding ventilation to your bathroom. 1-800-637-1453.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 509S through the wall utility fan. The 509S is designed to be hard wired with either 12 or 14 gauge wire. You would need to check your local electrical codes for what is required in your area. We do not recommend wiring it with an electrical cord and plug.

I intend to connect the fan to an electrical cord with a plug since hardwiring the fan is not possible.
