Rated 4 out of 5 by Seems to work most of the time. The fan works just fine. Sometimes the flapper outside sticks and don't open right away. The installer has been made aware of this problem. October 16, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Design change consideration Overall quality and design is good EXCEPT relative to the switch. It feels and is too small and not sturdy enough. Same goes for the knob as well. A more robust design approach is called for here. I actually purchased 2 of these units and the switch mechanism has failed within the first year of installation on one of the units. Rated 4 out of 5 by heavy duty bought this to replace same model that i had for 10 years. a tad loud but it rids the bathroom of all the humidity from steamy showers that ruin paint on ceiling. July 25, 2014

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 12C through the wall exhaust fan. The 12C is designed to mount in walls that are 5-1/2” to 9-15/16” thick. It is not designed to have duct work attached to it and we cannot recommend installing this unit different than the installation instructions state.

I have an older fan that needs replacing but the outside wall hole is 9x9 inches square. Could i still install this fan and just have it stick out more on the outside? The hole should be big enough to accommodate the round exhaust tube up to front of inside wall which distance meets your spec.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 509S through the wall exhaust fan. If you currently have a 9 inch by 9 inch hole through your wall, the 509S should install properly with the outer housing assembly and the inside grille covering the existing hole.

The instructions say cut a 6.375" hole thru the outside wall for installation. What size hole do we cut on the inside wall?

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 512M through the wall exhaust fan. The 512M can be installed in outside walls up to 10 inches thick. Walls less than 6 inches thick will not use the adjustable duct. If you are using the adjustable duct, cut a 6-3/8 inch diameter opening in the inside wall. If you are not using the adjustable duct, cut a 6-1/8 inch diameter opening in the inside wall.

    Grill Screw Post

Will you please provide me with the size and thread style of the Screw post that the grill screw on to. I set the unit back too far in the wall and I need to find a bolt coupler in order to extend the length of the Grill Mounting post for the unit. Unless there is something that Broan sells that accomplishes this.

Thank you for your question on model 509S through the wall exhaust fan. The 509S would not have an option for a different outside housing. We do not have a through the wall fan that will fit your specifications.
