Thank you for your question on the model 509S through the wall fan. Any fan placed in a bathroom and installed so it vents outside, will take moisture out of the room.

Thank you for your question on the model 509S through the wall fan. We do not have an option for an inside cover for the 509S, but there are after market companies that make these covers.

Is there a way to better seal off air around the damper?

Okay, so I examined the Through Wall Fan 509S on the outside. Sure enough, as you say, the damper opens and shuts via a spring. HOWEVER, a steady stream of cold air still gets around it and up into the kitchen. I could cap it off myself on the outside, but would then have to trek through the snow each time I use the fan. Maybe Broan should design and include with the fan a snap-on plastic cap that would prevent air flow into the house. The draft of cold air coming in is relentless!

Thank you for your question on the model 509S through the wall fan. There are aftermarket companies that make inside covers for these types of fans. You can do an internet search to find these. We are sorry we are not able to assist you more.

Does my wall exhaust fan have a damper at all, or is it stuck in open position?

I disagree that I in any way mentioned some other product, but anyway:
If my newly installed kitchen-to-outdoors exhaust fan has a damper that shuts when it is not in use, it must be stuck in open position - cold air is freely blowing into the kitchen. Please advise.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 509S through the wall exhaust fan. The 509S does have a spring operated damper that should blow open when the fan is turned on and be pulled shut with a spring when the fan is turned off. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 for further assistance.

Thank you for your question on the model 509S through the wall fan. This model is not a room-to-room fan, it is a through-the-wall fan that is meant to be vented through an exterior wall. Please verify your model number and contact us directly at 1-800-558-1711.
