  • 658 is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very noisy Sounds like a revved up motorcycle in the bathroom. Heater stopped working. I would not have another Broan in my home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm again! Even though we live in the desert, the master bath can get very cool in the winter. Plus we have a walk-in shower. The bathroom is not small, yet this heater provided the heat I needed to be warm getting in and out of the shower. The heater is slightly louder than we anticipated, but we don't see that as a problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As Advertised Just as advertised on line. Easy install and worked like a charm. Best thing was I didn't have to change the circuit to a 20 amp as it was advertised to run on 15.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Heater The install took about two hours by a qualified installer. Not a do it yourself project. The heater is great but the fan is very loud. If I could do it again I would buy the model with the light that has a quieter fan. I didn't need a light so I bought this one.

  • What safety features does the heater have - such as auto shutoff on high room temperature?

Is there any way to control the bathroom temperature other than just turning the heater off? If not, this heater could pose a safety problem of overheating while someone is taking a bath or shower.

The 658 heater/fan has an internal thermal fuse on the heating element. If for some reason the unit were to overheat, this fuse would open and shut the heater off. You can also install a wall timer on this unit, which would take the place of the wall switch. A 15 minute timer, in white, is our model number 61W. There is also a 60 minute timer which is model number 59W. Both of these timers are available in an ivory finish under models 61V and 59V respectively.

Recommendation on "quiet" models to replace an old 658

I have an old 658 heater/fan combo that I would like to replace with a similar but more quiet model. I don't want to do any additional modifications if possible. Which models do you suggest?

Thank you for your question on the model 658 exhaust fan/heater. There are no parts that can be placed inside the 658 housing other than the original replacement parts. If you need a unit that is quieter, you would need to totally remove the 658 from the ceiling and make the ceiling cutout larger, to install a new unit. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 for further assistance.

Can you install this Heater/Fan with a digital thermostat?

For example we have two office bathrooms that are constantly cold. We wanted to install these fans in the bathrooms with a thermostat so they stay at a constant temperature range. A timer or on/off switch would be not be effective since the bathroom would already be cold when employees enter. Thanks

Thank you for your question on the model 658 exhaust fan/heater. It is possible to use a standard line switchable thermostat with the 658 heater. Please remember that all of our heaters are designed for supplemental heat only and to run for a maximum of 15 – 20 minutes at a time. Extended running time of the heater can cause the thermal protector to open and require repair. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 if you need further assistance.
