Rated 3 out of 5 by Loud and poor heat out put It's an average unit. It is louder than we thought, plus the heater doesn't put out like we hoped either. We have the same unit our smaller kid bathroom and still doesn't put out heat like we thought. Only had it for 2 months, so I can not comment on long life. If sound and heat is important, I would not suggest this model. December 18, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Heating element failed the first one of these units i bought lasted over 5 years before the heating element quit working, does nothing when the switch is flicked. for the price, i bought en entire second unit, believing that if one component went after 5 years, the rest couldnt be far behind. well, 18 months in and the heater went on the new one. Broan used to offer a 5 year warranty on this, but i've discovered that theyve since changed it to a 1 year. hmmmm and thew new one died after a year and a half, coincidence? October 18, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by The 655 is a mid level unit The 655 works fine but the light socket failed within 1.5 years and the light lens has yellowed from a 100W bulb during normal residential use. As a specifier of fans in the HVAC industry I give it a 5 out of 10 for short light socket life. September 10, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Heater/ Exhaust Fan for small bathroom We have 2 of these units in our two smaller bathrooms. They work extremely well. We had them installed during the building of our home 6 years ago. They are still functioning just fine. In our master bath, which is considerably larger, we installed a larger version with more power. I believe it is the Broan QTX110HL. It also has a night light feature, which is nice. It also works extremely well. Our heating element just went out in that one, but we are replacing it for about $30. Very pleased with our choice of these products. Would not want to live without them! May 4, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by really warms up my bathroom! It works great, is so nice to have extra warmth in the bathroom in the winter! The only negative is that it's rather noisy. February 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by This product is a good buy for the price. The Broan 655 is a direct replacement for a Broan 655 that was in use for more than twenty years. All present day ventilators would not fit the present opening. I checked with Broan online and was surprised that the model was still available although not in the box stores. Installation was a direct replacement. The fan isn't the quietest when running but really does a great job removing the moisture from the shower in my small bathroom. When the shower is running it isn't noticeable. No issues with unit since installation. February 20, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by I have two of these fans I replaced both of the fans in my upstairs bathrooms with Broan 655 heat/light/fan and I am pleased. These are a little noisy but most fans are. The price was very reasonable and the quality is great. February 20, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by .This product is a good value for the money Would be nice to have a night lite feature. Regular Light bulb expired in 2 months-probably no ventilation around it February 20, 2013

I changed the bulb in my 655. After the light will not work. I tried both the new and old bulb and neither work. I tried it a lamp and they worked fine so it's not the bulb.

Thank you for your question on the model 655 exhaust fan/heater/light. From your description the problem would have to be in the bulb socket, the internal wiring or the wall switch. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 for assistance.

Can I replace 655N heater unit with 655RP heater unit?

     on 655
The heater unit of my Nutone 655N combination fan, heater-fan, and light is failing. I think it is the motor that is failing. When I turn on the heater unit, the fan has begun running at a very low speed. (Sometimes it will run at normal speed, but not often.) The fan itself spins freely. I worry that if the fan isn't pushing enough air over the heating elements, things could overheat and I could have a house fire. It appears that I can't just replace the heater fan motor. The 655 RP appears to have replaced the 655N. So, I need to know if I can install the Broan 655RP heating unit in place of the 655N heating unit. And while I'm asking, why is the 655RP heating unit almost as expensive as a new complete 655 RP unit?

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 655N and 655RP. Broan has a 655 exhaust fan/heater/light and NuTone had a 665N and currently has a 665RP. The parts for the 655 are available through the “Shop for Parts” link at the top of our web site page. The 665RP is the replacement for the NuTone 665N, but the internal parts are not compatible with each other. If you have the 665N, you will need to completely remove the 665N from the ceiling to install the 665RP.

    Broan 655 Heater Vent

Why does the heater vent on only 1 side of the fixture? Is it possible to have the heater vent through both sides or to change the side of the heat discharge?
    Thanks,

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 655 exhaust fan/heater/light. The heater inside the 655 will pull air from one side of the grille, push it across the heating coils and return it back into the room on the other side of the grille. The heater cannot push heat down through both sides of the grille and you cannot change the side of the grille that the heat is sent through.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 655 exhaust fan/heater/light. If the 655 is installed properly, the grille stud should be long enough. The bottom of the unit housing needs to be flush with the finished side (room side) of the ceiling dry wall. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 if you need further assistance.

    Heater Installation question

During the unpacking, the instructions are very specific about loosening the retaining screws. During the final installation of the heater the instructions are not so specific. Should the heater be put back up far enough, and then reattached using the retaining screws?
Should it be left loose (held up by friction)?
