Optional non-duct recirculation kit available with charcoal filters sold separately.

    • Concealed variable speed control with last setting memory means the hood is set for the next time you cook your favorite dish

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very good, functional unit, but not for tall people. This stainless steel hood with variable-speed fan and low-high light performs quite well. It seems solidly built and is an attractive addition to a functional kitchen. However -- and this is an important point -- engineering principles regarding air flow determine the height of the unit above the cooking surface. As a result, this unit is installed typically at a height of about 5 feet 10 inches. This means that anyone over 5' 9" sooner or later will bang their head (ouch!) on the corner of the unit. Additionally, until they get familiar with the fan and light controls, tall people will need to slouch down to locate the controls. Thus, my recommendation to purchase this hood is conditional on how tall you are.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very beautiful, clean, modern look - miles apart from the normal sloped hoods. I brought this hood because I wanted something with a clean, modern anmd different and artistic look. This was the only one I could find (other than Tamburo - twice as expensive) that did not look like the 99% other metal range hoods available in the market. I am very happy with the looks, it matches the rest of my stainless steel kitchen appliances. It performs very well and is easy to clean., Myself and my husband installed it in less than one hours. This hood makes all my guests ask where did you buy it, we have never seen anything looking this nice in stainless steel.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good air flow The hood fan is effective at removing steam. However, it sticks out quite a bit causing problems when working at the stove. The corners are sharp and can give you good knock on the head if you aren't careful. The halogen lights sometimes don't work due to loss of contact in the sockets. I've had one of the lights fall out of the socket completely several times!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from excellent unit, but a few quibbles We purchased this as a replacement to a hood that was installed in our house in the 1960s. This is a major step up, and we couldn't be more happy with the unit's performance. It not only is much quieter than our older model, but it is also much more efficient in removing steam and smoke from the range that is installed below it. On minor point which I do not appreciate about this unit is the fact that the control knobs for the fan speed and light intensity are of the push-on variety. At one point within the first year of ownership one of the knobs fell off, onto the surface of the range and melted. I replaced the knobs with the set-screw type knobs which are available at Radio Shack (and hardware stores). Broan should re-think this design flaw, in my opinion, and replace the push-on knobs with something more stable and less likely to fall off. Overall, I love this hood, though, and would definitely purchase it again if given the opportunity! Thanks, Broan!

Can an LED bulb substitute for the halogen?

    Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your question on the Broan model AP136SS range hood. We cannot recommend using an LED bulb with this range hood. It will not function properly and will not last very long. We can only recommend using two 50 watt (or less), GU10 halogen bulbs.

how do you get the lightbulbs out to replace them? I have this hood and can't get the bulbs out.

    Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your question on the model AP136SS range hood. To remove the bulb you would push in on the bulb and turn it approximately ½ inch counterclockwise. The bulb should drop out of the socket. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 for further assistance.

What is the difference between the AP and RP136SS? They look the same in the photos.

    Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your question on the AP1/RP1 range hoods. These two hoods use the same shell so they are the same size. The cfm and sone ratings are also the same. The difference is in the switches and the filter. The AP1 has a variable speed blower control with rotary knobs and includes a last setting memory. This model also has a special type of aluminum micromesh filter with antimicrobial coating. This model can be ducted or non-ducted. The RP1 uses a two speed rocker control to control the motor. It also uses the aluminum micro mesh filters but it does not offer the special coating. The RP1 is a ducted only model. We have included a picture of the different switches for your convenience.

Can the AP136SS be mounted against the back wall (and not hang from cabinets)?

Can the AP136SS be supported (with appropriately stiff metal backing plate) against the back wall (cantilevered)? If not, is there a hanging kit to run stainless cables to the front two mounting points and support the back side of the unit by attaching to the back wall? We have a range with no cabinets above it. I don't mind doing a little customization since we bought this unit for another house and never used it. Cantilevered is probably unlikely, but hanging from two cables seems doable. Maybe 4 cables AND mount to the back wall. I'm looking for any kits or instructions or hints. Otherwise, I'll customize it.

Thank you for your question on the model AP136SS range hood. This model is compatible with the model 35 wall brackets when using the hood in a ducted application only. You can view these brackets on our website for more information.
