Rated 4 out of 5 by Overall an excellent product Installation instructions are very poor. This makes for a difficult install, primarly with the mounting and electrical connections. Once installed it works great. September 13, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great product, installation can be tricky Lots of good things to say about use of the product. Plenty of air movement. Great lighting. Easy controls. Takes up minimal room. Looks stylish. Very cost effective. High marks all around. Installation can be a bit tricky in matching up the output of the vent hood to existing duct work. We had to do some modifications to get this to work, but one of my buddies is an HVAC pro and he made it happen. Not something that I could have done myself. So just a heads up on that. Otherwise, extremely pleased with the product. March 13, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Sleek and powerful Has been effective with smoke and order removal and wonderfully quiet to operate which was the combination I sought in features. Nice looking and easy to clean. Lighting is beautiful but the control panel could definitely use simplification and easier operation. March 10, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by nice noise level like color-lights-2 different speeds-installed by handyman March 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Much quieter and great features I like the halogen dual brightness setting. The system is much quieter and cleans the air quicker than my old range hood. It is sleek and slim compared to my old clunker. March 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Sophisticated, smart unit. It's the little things - the automatic night light, the temp sensor that turns on the fan when it detects stove heat, and the quietness. Plus it looks good. The only downside was the blue plastic that protects the finish - it was a real pain to remove. March 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Lighting and Great Ventilation The Broan QP430SS does a great job of both venting cooking odors and lighting up the cooktop. We are using it to vent over an induction cooktop. A vent hood with Great (as opposed to adequate) lighting was just as much a priority for me as good, quiet ventilation. The Broan QP430SS has both. The Broan QP430SS does a great job of venting cooking odors, grease, and steam (we do a lot of pan frying and also I cook a lot of soups in the winter). The fan has 3 levels plus a boost. The 2 lower levels are very quiet. High is quieter than the over the range microwave it replaced. Boost is a bit noisy, but typically Boost is only used for short durations. The fan also has an auto-off feature. After pushing the timed-off button, the fan runs for 10 minutes then shuts down. A longer or shorter interval can be set after pushing the auto-off button; the pre-set time can also be changed if you always want a different interval The 4 halogen lights do a great job of illuminating the cooktop. In choosing a vent hood for our kitchen remodel (which was driven by wanting a vent hood that vented better than the over the range microwave-vent combination we had) great lighting was more important to me than the auto-off. Luckily for us the Broan QP430SS has both great lighting and timed-off. There are 3 levels of light plus a night-light. Standard setting is for the nightlight to come on automatically, but we've turned that feature off. (Nightlight was coming on when we felt there was still enough light not to need it -- it's nice that many of the pre-sets can be changed to suit your needs.) There is also a minute timer. The pre-set is for 10 minutes. You use the + and - buttons to change the interval. The pre-set can also be changed if you want a different interval. The 2 metal mesh filters can go in the dishwasher. This unit does not keep time of fan runtime nor does it alert you when it's time to clean the filters -- about the most negative thing I can say about the Broan QP430SS. I didn't rate the Ease of installation because kitchen contractor installed the unit. I don't recall that they had any particular issues. This unit can vent to either rectangular or circular ducting. The stainless steel is not "fingerprint proof" but it's not difficult to clean. We also bought the matching stainless steel backsplash piece to have a nice-looking, easy-to-clean, grout-free backsplash behind the cooktop. Actual size was a fraction of an inch larger than the specs said, which caused the contractor a bit of a hassle; they had to get the stainless steel panel cut down. March 10, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by hard to use The product is very hard to use. I had to use the manual to learn how to set the clock, and to turn the lights off so they weren't on all the time. Still have not found out how to turn the fan off. It seems to run literally all the time. After about three hours it will turn off, but then it is usually time to cook again. Very difficult to set the controls. On the plus side, it is a nice-looking unit. December 28, 2013

Thank you for your question regarding the QP430SS range hood. The 3-1/4” x 14” duct will provide a little better air flow versus the 7” round duct.

    Answer:
I would guess that the rectangular duct has a slightly larger cross section, but eventually ( it seems ) a transition to round & roof vent is inevitable. It seems to me to be a question of how do you want the space the duct will occupy in the cabinet to be. Because there is crown molding above the cabinet . . my wife does not want to cut out too much, so also the round would be the choice.

    Answer:
Also, If you also choose the rectangle duct & have to transition to round to go to the roof vent, it will require a expensive transition piece.

Can this be vented through the back and then down out through the basement.

We are buying a house that has a new vent installed out through the basement. Approximately five feet down and then 12 feet out. I am assuming the cfm will be sufficient.

we also have a new older kenmore mfg by broan that is rated at 360 cfm. But I do not believe that it will be sufficient with the two bends and piping length.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question. The QP436SS utilizes 3 1/4" x 14" duct when venting horizontally, out the rear of the hood. Assuming that this duct size is maintained throughout, the rated CFM should be achieved.

Thank you for your question on the model QP430SS range hood. The QP430SS is designed to be installed directly to the bottom of a cabinet. There is no decorative flue available for this unit.

Does not respond to push button control. Intermittently switches from one speed to another on its own. Can only control fan on-off at breaker panel.
