Total installation time was about 2-1/2 hours for me as a homeowner (non-professional). The appearance and quality is excellent and it moves plenty of air for my small bathroom. March 10, 2014

    Speed Controller

I installed a Leviton RTD01 Fan Speed Controller and Light Dimmer combination switch with my Broan 673C fan. Everything seemed to work ok initially, but the first time I ran the fan in actual use the fan overheated and quit working after less than 5 minutes. Should the fan have worked ok with this controller? The speed controller has 5 positions -- off, max, high, med, low -- and I did notice that the speed on max was lower than on high (max and med about the same), so maybe the controller was faulty.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 673 vertical discharge fan. The 673 is designed to work with our model 78W or 78V, four speed fan control. Since the unit has not been tested with the Leviton RTD01 control, we cannot tell you if it works with this control or if the control was defective. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 for further assistance.

Can I use this to circulate heat from room to room?

I have a wood burning stove in my basement with a 10" square hole in the floor (above the stove) to allow heat to rise into the first floor. I would like to install a fan between the floor joists (below the floor cut-out) to help move heat from the basement to the upstairs. Basically just want to transfer air from basement to upstairs.

Thank you for your question on the model 504 vertical discharge fan. This fan is designed to be installed with duct work to a roof cap and not for the purposes you have explained. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 for assistance.

Thank you for your question on the Nautilus N505 vertical discharge fan. The Broan 505 would be the replacement for the N505.

Can a light be retrofitted on a 673 model exhaust fan?

I am finishing an upgrade of my bathroom and have hit a snag with this fan in the bathroom. The fan motor works fine, but I would like to add a light fixture to the fan to improve lighting in that section of the bathroom. Is there a possible solution/retrofit add-on to make this exhaust fan become an exhaust fan and light?

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 673 exhaust fan. There is no option to install a light on the model 673. If you need a unit with a light, you will need to completely remove the 673 from the ceiling and install a different model.

Is there a radiation damper available for this fan?

We'd like to use this fan, along with the grease shield to replace the existing kitchen ceiling exhaust fan in an apartment complex. However, we need a radiation damper that fits it to maintain the 1 hour ceiling rating.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 505 vertical discharge exhaust fan. Although there are numerous fans in our line that would accept a radiation damper, the 505 does not. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 for further assistance.
