Rated 4 out of 5 by this product works great but its loud. the features are great it get the job done but its loud. Wish I could purchase another with a light in it and a quieter one , I wish I win so I can buy another. August 3, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Inexpensive and easy to replace busted vent fan Was very easy to remove old one and put in new one. Literally plug and play. Interesting buying the whole unit was cheaper than just buying the replacement motor which I would have preferred since I did not need to replace the box and grille. September 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Needed to replace existing fan and this model fit perfectly, is more quiet and was reasonably priced. What more do you need? Easy to install, quiet and a great price. Good product. March 26, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by it is a good product a reliable and powerful fan at a reasonable price. Will buy the same product in future. March 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by great price, clever design Great fan, maybe, if there is a deluxe model, it could be quieter, but its not too loud March 10, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by existing fan replacement We installed this replacement fan in 3/4 bath. The fan is strong and clears shower dampness very efficiently. But it is loud. If the instructions for replacing the fan with a plug were clearer, I would have been able to replace the fan myself rather than hiring someone. Since the existing fan plugged into the ceiling, it was very easy to replace; no wiring or going into crawl space was required. The instructions didn't say how to remove the existing fan (same type). Since we were replacing an existing fan of the same type, I wish I could have purchased this model without the housing; I just had to throw out the brand new housing; a waste of money and materials. Overall I would recommend this fan for a replacement; this one fit into our existing fixture perfectly. If you are installing a new one without an existing opening, then I would suggest you look for a model which is quieter. Our old one lasted 22 years; I assume this model will be as reliable. Rated 4 out of 5 by Over 6 months now and works great 6+ months ago i replaced my small bath's fan. i can not complain AT ALL..... for the price it sells this is absolutely amazing!! It removes foul air efficiently and works like a charm. With respect to noise level.... it is noisy, but i do not visit the toilet for reading or napping and have no problem with a little noise side-effect for 2-3 mins. I was very skeptical buying it because i thought it would not last for the ridiculous price i paid. So far so good... August 21, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Loud but work well in smaller bath. Have this in both baths. Works great in 40 sq. ft. bath. Noisy is my complaint since it is next to my TV room & have to turn tv up when it is on. Builders also put same model Broan 688 k in my larger bath, 80- to 85 sq ft. I understand why it seems much quieter now. 50 cfm not enough power. No suction. July 30, 2013

    old Ceiling Mount Fan 689

I need to replace a very old Ceiling Fan 689 in my bathroom.
I have ordered the "new" model 689, but it does not fit : it is too big. Is it possible to find the old one (circa 1982) and if yes, where?
If not, what are my alternatives?
    Thanks for your help.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 688J and 688K exhaust fan. The “J” and “K” represent some sort of revision made to the unit, but the “K” will work in the same housing as the “J”. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 if you need further assistance.

I have a model 688K but can only find the 688 at the hardware stores. What is the difference and will a 688 fan/motor/etc work instead of the 688k?? I just replaced the motor and I can hear it but the fan not working. Not sure if it's because its the wrong model. Please advise.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 688 exhaust fan. The 688 and the 688K are basically the same model. The difference is that the 688K is the model number including the revision letter. The parts from different revisions are not particularly interchangeable with each other, but the 688 currently in the stores would be compatible with the 688K.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 671 exhaust fan. There should not be air blowing back down into the room. It sounds like you may have a stuck back draft damper or an obstruction in the duct work. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 for further assistance.

    Can I replace a 688-K?

I have a non-operational 688-K mounted in my bathroom ceiling. I cannot access the unit via the attic. Is it possible to replace the unit, or the motor, with access available only from the bathroom? Thanks.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 688-K exhaust fan. The 688-K can be repaired from the bathroom side of the unit. The easiest repair would be a fan assembly (motor mounting bracket, motor and blower wheel) part number 97012026. You could also just get the motor and blower wheel (part number 97012041) and reuse the mounting bracket you already have. Both of these can be purchased through the “Shop for Parts” link at the top of our web site page. Customer Service can also assist you at 1-800-558-1711.
