Rated 5 out of 5 by Very worth while purchase Started out just buying an inexpensive exhaust fan to replace an ancient fan, likely 40 years old. Biggest problem was old hole was round and new install is square. Easy to fix, just a couple minutes of work with a sheet rock saw and hole was square! Took maybe ten minutes to do the entire install. My biggest surprise was how quiet it is overall. Not the quietest fan I have ever come across, but much quieter than I was expecting at this price point :) Easy to install, even with needed ceiling modification. Attractive and fairly quiet. Very good value for the money as well as good quality. Would buy this again!! April 26, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Does the job This is a low CFM model but it is important to size the unit for your particular room size. As far as noise goes, it is common to make a bath fan loud so as to mask any other "noises", both to benefit the person sitting on the throne as well as anyone else within hearing distance. This is especially true in a powder room where it may adjacent to other living spaces and the reason that they have different sound ratings. If you want a quiet one, pick one with the lower level. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Product For A Great Price Went to my local hardware store and found this unit. Unit was easy to wire and mount. Like the ease of not having to use any tools to take the motor out or put it in. This unit replaced an older unit that was on its last leg. Night and day difference and a lot quieter.. Rated 4 out of 5 by this product works great but its loud. the features are great it get the job done but its loud. Wish I could purchase another with a light in it and a quieter one , I wish I win so I can buy another. August 3, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Inexpensive and easy to replace busted vent fan Was very easy to remove old one and put in new one. Literally plug and play. Interesting buying the whole unit was cheaper than just buying the replacement motor which I would have preferred since I did not need to replace the box and grille. September 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Needed to replace existing fan and this model fit perfectly, is more quiet and was reasonably priced. What more do you need? Easy to install, quiet and a great price. Good product. March 26, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by it is a good product a reliable and powerful fan at a reasonable price. Will buy the same product in future. March 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by great price, clever design Great fan, maybe, if there is a deluxe model, it could be quieter, but its not too loud March 10, 2014

Damper doesn't open when fan is on.

May never have opened. Bought the home new. Just replace louvered vent on outside of house. When I ran the fan to make sure new vent worked properly it was almost as if it was being sucked shut. Could the original install have wired or mounted the motor wrong so that it is pulling in air rather than exhausting?

    Answer:
No, the motor runs so it is wired correctly, as it is an AC motor.
I would suggest pulling off grill and with unit off, check to see if damper will open with a small stick or pencil. Most often problem is blockage by debris or the like.
If it does open when gently pushed open. Using a flashlight and staying clear of the fan, observe flapper door while someone else turns on fan, to see if it opens.
As it is in a new home, the outlet of the fan should go into some ducting, routing the moist air out of the attic area. If this ducting is collapsed or incorrectly installed, you will have the same kind of problem you are describing.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 688 exhaust fan. When the 688 is properly installed, it should have no problem opening the damper. The 688 can handle up to 13 feet of three inch, straight, rigid duct work. You would need to reduce that distance by three feet for every elbow. From your description, you either have a problem with the duct work or the motor would need to be replaced. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 if you need further assistance.

It still works. I'm trying to clean it but it's just disgusting. Watched a bunch of videos where they say to detach the motor, this one is just too old, I can't get it off. It is kind of loud as well when it runs. Is there a comparable model that would fit without any problems? Help needed, I'm not good with DIY or fixing things.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 676 exhaust fan. This model has been discontinued and there is no direct replacement. We have replacement parts availlable should you care to repair this unit. Please contact Customer Service at 800-558-1711 for parts assistance. The suggested replacement for the 676 is the A110, but it is not an exact replacement as the housing size is larger. Please contact Technical Support for more assistance at 800-637-1453.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 688 exhaust fan. The only parts available for use in the 688 unit housing are the original replacement parts. If you need more CFM or a quieter unit, you would need to totally remove the 688 from the ceiling and replace it with another model.

Is this a form fit replacement for the 681-a model?

I need to replace a Broan 681-a exhaust fan that has died. If I purchase the 688, will that be a form fit replacement that simply pops into the existing unit? I do not see the 681-a available for purchase anywhere on its own.
