Rated 2 out of 5 by from Looking for quiet LOW setting I selected this product when I was replacing a vent fan with a roof mounted motor when we remodeled our kitchen. This fan model featured variable speed and I consider Broan a brand I can trust. It fits well into the box built for it and looks good in the new kitchen. There is no variation in the speed of the fan so it is either ON and NOISY or OFF and quiet. I don't think the variable speed sliding switch has ever worked correctly. It is never low. When it was installed the fan would randomly start running without being turned on and could not be turned off. Broan sent replacement parts and paid my electrician to install them. Customer and technical service were very helpful with that issue but they didn't offer any explanation for the lack of variation in the velocity of the fan. It does a great job of removing odors and cooking steam. It is much noisier than another brand that my daughter installed three years ago. They price of the two is similar. The filters discolored when I washed them in the dishwasher. I did not see any warnings against that method of cleaning. I didn't have that experience with my previous Broan model purchased in 1993. Halogen light bulbs create intense heat in the cooking area. According to Technical Support, one cannot install LED bulbs in this model fan. Another model fan is made with LED bulbs and they are not interchangeable which surprised my electrician.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from ALL LOOKS NO ACTION I wish I had seen some reviews before purchasing the Broan Nutone RMPE7004 & Broan In-Line Blower HLB11. The blower is not effective enough. The hood goes on in the middle of the night when there is no heat and nothing on the stove. The grease builds up on the light and it is impossible to clean They are both a disappointment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything......except This is everything we wanted in a fume hood, except the halogen lights. However, most of them have this type of lighting (why not LED?). So all things considered we thought this was the best bang for our buck. Honestly I'm not sure if the liner that I listed below is the exact one that we got, but if they all install as easily it doesn't matter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from RMPE7004 It would have gotten mainly 5 stars; however, I have 2 speeds and the low speed has never worked. Would have exchanged it, but it had to be modified just a little for an older kitchen remodel. Other than this, I really like it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact Design works well under kitchen cabinet I converted a downflow vent arrangement to an overhead exhaust. The vent had to fit in the cabinet above the stove. This unit was a perfect fit and did not take up a lot of room in the cabinet. Combined with an exterior mounted exhaust fan and a inline silencer the only sound you hear is air movement. There was one defective part which was promptly supplied by Broan. Good service experience.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like that it is installed out of sight. I am a bit disappointed that the halogen lights were not installed tight enough not to blink when I close the cabinet doors above the vent.

  • What else do I need to make this work?

I bought what looks like only the lights and finished out piece…..I don't see a fan etc? so I am assuming I bought the 7004? What else is needed to get this thing to work? besides the duct work etc. Do I need a motor/fan or what.
    Asked by: bdbenke
This unit is designed to work with a remotely located fan that exhausts to the exterior of the house. You need a fan sized based on the BTU output of the burners on the stove.

Is there a requirement regarding distance from existing windows?

There will be a window on both the left and right side of this unit. Is that OK?
    Asked by: Karen
I would suggest that the vent exhaust be located as far away from the windows as possible to avoid the exhaust fumes blowing back through a window when it is open.

Too much noise, unreliable fan switch

I have this power pack with an external blower installed in my kitchen. When the blower is on, the power pack makes a very load and annoying whistling sound - which goes away when I remove the two filters. Is there anyway to reduce the noise? Also, the sliding speed switch for the fan is very unreliable. It does not turn off, and I have had it replaced twice. Do you have plans for a new switch design.

I have the same issues with my fan. I thought mine was defective. Perhaps it is a design flaw. My daughter has another brand with defined levels. When it is on low it is very quiet. I don't know if it is an external mount. It is an updraft fan.

8 inch vent opening in the top, is it centered on the box?

The picture makes it look like it is centered on the long side, but is set back to better line up with the screen vents on the short side, front to back? Jim
    Asked by: JJ Selis
Correct - it is centered along the long side and set to the back of the unit.
