  • 696 is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great design & function We were looking for a brushed nickel design to match an existing Moen faucet and this collection did the job perfectly. The quality of materials is excellent as is the mounting method. The one thing we love about the TP holder is the swing up design of the arm rather than the typical spring loaded type - which is at times hard to deal with. So far we have outfitted 2 bathrooms with this collection and the swing up arm design and we love them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very pleased with one minor complaint I bought this unit as a direct replacement for a 27 year old Broan fan. The designs were basically the same so it fit in the same sheet rock cut out the old unit resided in. Changing to the new one was fairly straight forward. It took a few trips to the attic to secure the hangers and check the vent connection. In operation this new unit is much quieter than the old. The light is about the same (not terribly bright with a 60W bulb). My only complaint is that the design of the new plastic cover has vent openings that allow one to see into the innards of the fan and light - not a real pretty sight. If the designers had taken care to cover this I would give the fan/light 5 stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great basic fan/light Just put up 2 of these and I am pleased. It is not fancy but looks good and is quiet. I like the bright white color, it looks clean against the ceiling. I only wish it had two light bulbs instead of 1, that is why it got 4 stars instead of 5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent replacement I replaced a 1970's vintage model 696 with the item purchased. Much quieter, increased ventilation, updated grille design and improved fan. The old fan was aluminum, fatigued with age and wouldn't stay balanced, causing lots of vibration. The new one has the same dimensions as the old, so installation was easy. Good price and fast free shipping!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great replacement This was a perfect replacement for the old 2 heat bulb/fan unit since it is about the same size housing. Plus the fan is much better quality and more CFM. More energy efficient also.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Good! These units were installed in three of my bathrooms and all three had to be replaced. One of them (in the master bath) needs to be replaced again. This unit is quiet because it does not work. My bathroom walls are wet and the entire bathroom is steamy. Why did I use the same product you might ask? The builder uses it and replaces with the same. Perhaps the next one will work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mr. Me I order this unit, because it was the exact size of the 70 cfm unit I replaced, so instalation was very easy. I did not want to cut out or fix any ceiling holes. The total time to remove and install was about 1.5 hours. This unit is a lot more quiet than the 70 cfm that I did replace.

  • Not venting

I have a 696 unit that is not venting the steam. I checked the motor and wheel, damper, and ducting- ALL working fine. The steam is collecting on the unit and condensing which is dripping out of the unit onto the floor, and also tripping the GFI. The bathroom is a 6x8x8 room.
    Asked by: Nick
Thank you for your question on the Broan 696. If your duct work and damper are free and clear of obstructions, we would ask how the duct run is installed. Is there an immediate bend or elbow right off the unit? This could block the air flow and create back pressure. The duct work should be as short and straight as possible using a 4" round duct size. If this is the case, then you may not have enough make up air entering the room and the fan is suffocating. You have a larger fan than what is required for your room size so you have to allow fresh air to enter the room to replace the air exhausted. I'm replacing a Model 655.

Do I need attic access. Or can I do all work from inside the bathroom.
    Asked by: Jack
Thank you for your question on the model 655 exhaust fan/heater/light. The 655 and the 696 both need to be installed with attic or crawl space access. If you install these units from below, you would need to remove more of the ceiling dry wall than would normally be necessary and patch the ceiling after the installation is done. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 if you need further assistance.

Thank you for your question on the model 696 exhaust fan/light. We would only require that it be outside the tub or shower footprint.
