Rated 4 out of 5 by this product has it all Ive had this for almost a year the instructions were easy to read had a pro install the wiring with a dedicated line at the fuse panel heater ran great when first installed but quit when winter came I started noticing the heater fan would be quite when first turned on but would start getting loud when warmed up took out the heater/blower motor checked resistance with volt ohm meter and found that the diode has blown contacts were rusted i only run either the exhaust fan or heater never together hope that the new element will be an improvement fingers crossed. Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic Bathroom Heater... Heat unit went out after 2 years,, easily replaced We have had this for over 2 years. I am a bit of a handy person, so I installed the unit and had it professionally wired. ( I suggest get a professional to wire ) After 2 winters the Heater went out. Called Broan ...they were so nice. Sent replacement ...and we recieved it within 3 days. It was very very easy to install. We did not need to get back up in the attic, since it was designed properly. Replaced heater unit . ( 2 Screws ...installed from underneath the unit ) We will look for there products in the future .. GOOD JOB BROAN December 5, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Product Technical Support call: 1-800-637-1453 I got about 4 months out of the heater element I replaced on my dime. This time I called tech support and they explained, as others have stated, that the heater fan in older models does not come up to speed as fast as it should. They have a new heater fan with a new heater element they are more than happy to send to you. It is free and the shipping is free. The rep on the phone was great to deal with. No arguing. No when and where did you buy it. Pain free. I love good customer service and this is what I received. Call them. November 8, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by REPLACEMENT PARTS MADE EASY !!! First 2 heater units failed in first 5 weeks.. BUT contacted tech service who is sending new unit asap.. FREE OF CHARGE & WARRANTY STARTS OVER.. Must say, I got the feeling that the new unit has BETTER QUALITY bearings on the blower motor shaft ( ball bearings) by comments made. It seems to me as if the motor turns the fan too slow on initial startup and causes the thermal protector to shut the heating unit down as it starts to overheat before fan turns full speed..personal opinion of course.. BUT the problem is that it won't let it restart after cooling down a bit, unlike older ones did.. REPLACING HEATER UNIT IS VERY EASY !!!~2 screws & 1 plug.. Less than perfect on scoring only because of initial problems..tech service very user friendly and easy to use.. May 23, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Update to previous review - Broan fixed heater issuer This review is from: Broan 100HL Directionally-Adjustable Bath Fan with Heater and Incandescent Light (Tools & Home Improvement) When we initially purchased this fan it did not function correctly. The heater unit kept burning out after very little use. The manufacturer "Broan" was very responsive to this situation. They have since produced a new heating unit insert that they sent free of charge to us for both of our fans. It was easy to install, the heaters have been working very well since then. So far, no further problems. Thank you Broan for being a responsible company. May 21, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great product for my log cabin bathroom. within one week after installing the heater elements quit. I was extremely pleased when I was able to receive a replacement. Thank you, Maybe you could design it with replaceable fuses or resettable overloads. March 15, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Heater motor has gone out twice in a year and a half We love the heater, fan, light combo, but the heater motor keeps going out in a short time. That is disappoingint especially for the cost of replacement. February 20, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Works great Heater quickly warms the room. Exhaust works well. February 20, 2013

    Answer:
    Nothing to reset.
Make sure your connections inside are good. Do this by unplugging and replugging them. If the heating element is not getting warm, most likely the thermal fuse has blown. Since it is only three days old, try to return it to the store. If you have a meter, check continuity before and after the fusable link. The link is a small silver can in the heater coil( about the size of a 22 round) 1/2 long with a black bit of resin on one end. If it overheats it will fail for safety. Also, make sure that the heater fan is working up to speed. If is binds or runs slow, there is less air flow and it will overheat.

    Answer:
    John,

    Nothing to reset :-(
The thermal fuse is a one-shot deal.

I have an electronics technician (works for me) who looked the heater element over after the most recent failure.

Unfortunately Broan/NuTone did not use the resetting type of thermal switch.

In my review I called upon them to review this (obvious) flaw in design.

    Answer:
I have a 100HFL. If you have a meter you can check continuity of the heater element. There is a heat-fusible link that may have failed. It is a little silver can within the heater wires. Check continuity there. Or, a connector may not be seated correctly. Undoing everything and reassembling the connectors could solve the problem. Also, if the heater fan motor is running slow, the heater could have overheated and caused the failure( I had that happen).

You might also receive an e-mail from customer service, as I did, and a replacement part will be sent out. Tell your story on their review panel.

    100HFL

We have had the 100HFL for a couple of years. Last winter it started to have a weird burnt type smell when the heater part was on. Could that be the heating element going bad or insulation or dust in the heater? We use it with the exhaust fan and heating fan on at the same time.
    Any suggestions?

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 100HFL exhaust fan/heater/light. It is not unusual to get that burning type of smell if you have not used the heater for a while, but that should go away. If the burning smell continues it should probably be looked at. Please contact our Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 for further assistance.
