I'm a Builder / Contractor who has used Broan almost exclusively in our new homes and remodels for over 28 years. The model 100HL is very easy to install (if your handy), electrical connections are easily accessible thru a new metal access panel, but wiring should be left to a qualified installer ... heater on this unit requires a separate, dedicated, 20 Amp circuit. Do not try to wire into an existing circuit. VERY IMPORTANT.
Instructions re: hanger bars say to "ensure noise-free mount", use screws or pliers to crimp. BETTER (and in addition to screws) use a premium quality duct tape to tape the hangar bars together where they are nailed into the ceiling joists AND tape the hanger bars to the sides of the metal housing as well.
Also, use duct tape to tape the DAMPER / DUCT to the metal housing of the unit. The plastic ears on the damper / duct could easily become dislodged as you install the flexible duct OR could be disconnected in the future as you move about your attic.
Lastly, the "LIGHT REFLECTOR" is an aluminum housing that holds the grill in place with an "acorn nut". This aluminum housing tends to vibrate and create a lot of noise when the fan is running. Easily corrected by wedging some duct tape between the housing and the grill. I would have rated this 5 stars, if this was addressed by the Broan engineers!

Ive had this for almost a year the instructions were easy to read had a pro install the wiring with a dedicated line at the fuse panel heater ran great when first installed but quit when winter came I started noticing the heater fan would be quite when first turned on but would start getting loud when warmed up took out the heater/blower motor checked resistance with volt ohm meter and found that the diode has blown contacts were rusted i only run either the exhaust fan or heater never together hope that the new element will be an improvement fingers crossed.

The overall quality is good. Quiet and vents well. Good light and heat. The heating element has failed after 15 months of installation.

Heater element failed in eight months. I contacted Broan by Phone and talked to Chris. He only needed my shipping address, and sent me a complete heating unit with new fan. I am completely satisfied with their response and service.

We have had this for over 2 years. I am a bit of a handy person, so I installed the unit and had it professionally wired. ( I suggest get a professional to wire ) After 2 winters the Heater went out. Called Broan ...they were so nice. Sent replacement ...and we recieved it within 3 days. It was very very easy to install. We did not need to get back up in the attic, since it was designed properly. Replaced heater unit . ( 2 Screws ...installed from underneath the unit )
We will look for there products in the future .. GOOD JOB BROAN

This is my second fan of this model, The first one lasted only 6 months until the heat element and the fan pushing the air quit. I replaced the heat element and since the fan wasn't working either, that burned up in one use. Unfortunately, I failed to register the product. There are not many fans of this type to pick from which is why I am doing it again.

I got about 4 months out of the heater element I replaced on my dime. This time I called tech support and they explained, as others have stated, that the heater fan in older models does not come up to speed as fast as it should. They have a new heater fan with a new heater element they are more than happy to send to you. It is free and the shipping is free. The rep on the phone was great to deal with. No arguing. No when and where did you buy it. Pain free. I love good customer service and this is what I received. Call them.

I've got four of these units in my house and I'm not pleased that the heater went out on one when it was turned on for the first time this season. It's only been used for maybe a total of 30 minutes since it was installed. To make matters worse, it looks like the fuse can not be reset or easily replaced. Poor engineering if you ask me. A reset switch or the use of a standard fuse that is easily replaced would make for a much better design. I'm now concerned that the other 3 units I've got will fail soon as well.
