How to eliminate cooking odors throughout the house.

Whenever the oven or cooktop is on, half the house becomes permeated with a cooking odor. Area in question is approx. 900 sq ft. There is an OTR microwave fan which seems to be totally ineffective. What size ventilation fan (with thru the roof ducting) do you recommend? How does one determine the CFM requirement for a particular application?
    Asked by: Vince
Thank you for your question on kitchen ventilation. To determine the minimum size CFM fan needed, you would take the total BTU of the cooktop and oven and divide by 100. The optimum size would be 1-1/2 – 2 times the minimum. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 for further assistance.

What is the difference between the L900 & the L900L?

My living room/ Dinning room have very high ceilings. I am looking to install one of these fans. The room has a cathedral ceiling. The roof overhangs by 2.6 feet. I want to install outside just below the roof. I cannot tell the difference between these two fans. If you could please answer in layman terms, it would be appreciated. Thanks DJ

Thank you for your question on the model L900 and L900L exhaust fans. The L900 is designed to be installed where you see the grille attached to the unit itself that allows the air to be pulled from the room and vented to the outside. The L900L is designed to be used as an in-line fan where it is remotely located and you use a grille or grilles installed in a room and ducted to and through the fan to the outside. Neither one of these units are designed to be installed outside. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 if you need further assistance.

Can this be used on porch above grill?

What is heat rating? Can I mount this 5’ above grill to exhaust the smoke off the porch?
    Asked by: Will
Thank you for your question on the Broan L1500. The L1500 is not rated for outdoor use and for use over cooking applications. We do make an outdoor rated range hood model EPD6136SS or EPD48SS. If you have further questions please contact Technical Support directly at 800-637-1453.

    Time and speed control?

Can I connect both a timer and variable speed control together for this unit? In particular, I am looking at the 57W and 59W controllers.
    Asked by: Greg
Thank you for your question on the model L1500 exhaust fan. You can use the 59W (60 minute timer), but you cannot use the 57W (it does not have a high enough current rating). You can use the model 72W speed control instead of the 57W. You can use the 72W and the 59W switches together with this unit. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 if you need further assistance.
