  • Can your 503 vent fan be used over a gas range in a small kitchen to vent cooking fumes and steam thru the roof? Does it need a filter of some kind?

If I need a filter to use in the kitchen, what is that part number? Also, does it come with a metal grille?
    Asked by: Bill
Thank you for your question on the model 503 side discharge utility fan. The 503 can be used in a kitchen application to remove cooking impurities from the air. You do not need a filter, but there is an optional grease filter available for this unit. It is part number S99010042. There is also a metal grille available for this unit under part number S97013826. You can get both of these through our Customer Service Department at 800-558-1711.

Can fan be installed to discharge down?

    Asked by: rdk
Thank you for your question on the Broan model 503. We would not recommend installing the unit with the discharge down as the damper would stay open. For further assistance, please contact Broan-NuTone Canada directy at 888-882-7626.

    Round duct size for 502.

I am venting a workshop area and want to transition from the 502 (or other High CFM Utility Fan) to 4" duct to outside. Recommended round duct size for 502? Issues going to to 4" duct?
    Asked by: Paul
Thank you for your question on the model 502 utility fan. The 502 requires a 3-1/4” x 10” rectangular duct work. That can be transitioned to either six or seven inch round, but definitely not smaller than six.

    Kitchen use

Can this fan be installed on the ceiling over a cook top if used with the aluminum filter (s99010271) installed in it?
    Asked by: Andy
Thank you for your question on the model 502. This model can be installed in a kitchen. If it is installed above a cooking surface, the grille center must be located at least 58" above the floor or at least 22" above the heat source.
