Any issues using 4" ducting fan with 3" existing duct pipe
Our powder rooms' fan is 16 years old and loud (its the 696ND - says its 2.5 sones but it seems much louder!). I'd like to replace it with a modern quiet fan. The existing ducting is 3", and would be difficult to change as the room is in the middle of the house.
Most of the new quiet fans (< 1.5 sones) have 4" venting.
Is there any issue using a duct reducer (4" to 3") with these fans?
FYI, It a small powder room (< 50 sq ft).
What happens is your static pressure will increase (friction in the pipe) causing your 80 CFM fan to run at about 75 to 78CFM. All depends on the length of 3" pipe. The smaller pipe also increases the speed on how fast the air will travel down the pipe. Being a 80 CFM unit, shouldn't be a problem, but anything larger I would suggest going to a 4" to keep the noise down.

how do i remove grille ?
i tried pulling grille down. but it would not come lose. afraid if I used more force something might break. fan is 1 year old. please advise.
Just pull down from the ceiling. The spring action is very strong and adheres well, don't be concerned about damaging anything the unit is very strong.

Can I remove thecomplete blower assy from the duct box to clean the squirrel cage?
The blades are thickly packed with accumulated dust and the airflow is limited.
Thank you for your question on the model QTR110 exhaust fan. You can remove the blower assembly to do a full cleaning on the QTR110. The installation instructions are available for download from our web site. Page 4 of the installation instructions explains how to remove the blower assembly. How do I attatch the cover?
Thank you for your question on the model QTR110 exhaust fan. The grille for the QTR110 is held in place by butterfly springs. You will find two tabs, on either side of the unit housing, where the springs will go. Squeeze the spring together and place it inside the tab cut outs. After both sides are installed, you would push the grille up into place and the springs will expand to hold the grille up against the ceiling. If you need further assistance, please contact our Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453.

I have a QTR110 installed and would like to change it to a QTR110L, for the light. Will I have to change the housing?
Wiring is already installed for the fan/light combo. The light wire is capped in the electrical box of the fan. I'm assuming I'd have to swap the connector/plug assembly of the old QTR110 with the one that comes with the QTR110L.
I notice from the spec's that the housings are the same dimensions, but the 110L grille is slightly smaller.
Thank you for your question on the model QTR110 exhaust fan. The only parts we can suggest or recommend for the QTR110 are the original replacement parts. If you need a unit with a light, you would need to replace the QTR110 with another model. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 for further assistance.
