Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! We installed the Broan 8830 eight months ago when we remodeled our kitchen. It replaced an unvented hood. We have been delighted with its performance. It moves air efficiently and quietly. The variable speed motor is far preferable to having three fixed speeds. The light fixture provides ample illumination of the range top.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great hood. I ordered this hood online. It was delivered within a week, in perfect condition. The hood was easy to install. We've been using it for about a month. As for performance, it is much quieter than I expected, even at maximum speed, and looks great with my birch cabinets. The draw is excellent, as is the two-stage light. I particularly like that it is variable speed, rather than with just 2 or 3 fixed settings.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from difficult to keep clean; light switch flimsy We have had one of these hoods for years. The alcoves --the hollow areas on either side of the blower up above the filters-- are impossible to keep clean. Also, oil and grease collects in the wells at the bottom of the filters, and the metal is sharp there, so it is easy to cut your fingers when wiping out those wells. A better design would eliminate nooks and crannies to make it as easy as possible to keep clean. The sliding on/off switch for lights is plastic and with repetitive use will one day snap, and it's expensive and a pain to repair, requiring complete disassembly of the unit and the purchase of an entire assembly, not just the broken part. That front panel should simply snap out to make such a repair, but it doesn't. The fan is relatively noisy when vented out the rear and running at or near top speed. It doesn't do a great job removing smoke such as when grilling a steak at a fairly high heat. The two small bulbs are in the front, and so the rear of the cooktop is not well lit. We bought the unit because of its size (33") but then Broan discontinued that size in the lineup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what we were looking for We are very pleased with the look of the range hood and operation of the exhaust fan. The color matched our other appliances perfectly. Great product at a fair price.

What is the equivalent duct run with an 8" duct?

Asked by: Neil with Building Science Inc
Thank you for your question on the model 883023 range hood. The 883023 requires the use of a 3-1/4” x 10” rectangular duct. If you convert the 3-1/4” x 10” to 8” round when you come off of the damper duct assembly, you can run the duct work an equivalent of 42 feet. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 if you need further assistance.

How many inches should be between a gas range and the bottom of a 883904 range hood?

I have a 40" gas range and I'm installing a 39" Broan model #883904 range hood. It currently measures 33" between the top of the gas range burners and the bottom of the range hood. Is the a good distance or should it be less space in between?
    Asked by: Leathers
Thank you for your question on the model 883904 range hood. For the best capture of cooking impurities the bottom of the 883904 should be mounted 18 – 24 inches above the cooking surface.

    Can the 3 1/4 x 10 inch duct be transitioned into a 6" duct?

I would like to purchase this hood to go over a slide-in Electrolux induction range. The existing ductwork is 3 1/4 inch transitioning into 6 inches. I s this acceptable for this model?
    Asked by: elena
Thank you for your question on the model 883004 range hood. The 3-1/4" x 10" duct can be transitioned to a 6" round using model number 411. We would prefer to recommend transitioning to a 7" round using the 412H model number. It is always better to use a larger duct size if at all possible. For further discussion, please contact our Technical Support at 800-637-1453..

On a 30" hood, how far does the end angle in after the 12" mark.

Due to my cabinet placement, I have a depth problem. The 17-l/2" would work but I would like a hood with more CFM. On a 30" hood, does the 88000 series angle in enough to give me less depth so I do not bang my cabinet doors? What is the length of the front portion of the 30" hood?
