  • How do I correct thumping damper noise when exterior winds blow a certain direction.

    Asked by: JasG
Thank you for your question on the bath and ventilation exhaust fans. The best way to correct the damper noise would be to install a roof or wall cap, where the duct work exits the house, with an included damper. Please contact the Technical Service Department at 800-637-1453 if you need further assistance.

    thumping damper AE80BF

We also have the thumping issue, especially in our powder room. This is being installed in the new homes built by Pulte in Del Webb Woodbridge, Manteca, CA The builder has told us that there is nothing we can do other than turn on the fan when it is windy and the banging noise is irritating. Why has the unit continued to be manufactured with this defective feature? When it is as windy as it is today, the noise even wakes us up during the night! There is a major storm all over the US today. Thank you for your question on the AE80BF ventilation fan finish kit. Our recommendation is still the same as the previous reply. It is the job of the wall or roof cap to stop the air from returning back through the duct work. If you do not have a roof or wall cap with a built-in back draft damper, we would recommend one. During extremely windy or stormy conditions, this may still happen. You can put a piece of foam or felt on your damper at your fan to help control the sound you are hearing. We would recommend that you contact our Technical Support team if you would like to discuss this further at 800-637-1453.
