Rated 4 out of 5 by Good idea; some work needs doing on the implementation I do really like my Downdraft. I have no other way of getting rid of cooking smoke, etc. My one big complaint: You can't clean it below the filters. I'm sure there is stuff that drips down the sides of it, but I can't get to any of it to clean it. I think, over time, it will build up and smell, as well as attract bugs. That's a real flaw. Rated 4 out of 5 by Good vent for the price I really like the way this vent works - I didnt give it perfect scores for two reasons - I was putting it in where I previously had a downdraft stove - to connect the vent to the previous opening took a lot of creativity. If the vent wasnt so tall or you could place the exhaust on either side, it would be helpful providing more room for installation. the suction is good, not great - I think if you buy the external fan, it prvides more suction, but it also makes the unit more expensive. Overall good, not great. but still worth the money September 4, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very effective Very effective in removing cooking odors. It is fairly loud and not easy to clean. March 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautifully matches our new induction cooktop. Much more powerful and effective than the other (not Broan) was. The Broan downdraft works great! It matches the new induction cooktop and pops up and does its job! We really like the infinitely adjustable fan speed control. A mid-range setting is usually plenty, but a couple of times we used the maximum and it quickly cleared the air!. It is reasonably quiet for most use. March 10, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Powerful and quiet with adjustable fan. We've been pleased with the downdraft ventilation so far. It is powerful and not very loud. I like the fact that the fan speed is adjustable. We ordered it to be installed in our new house by our builder, so can't really comment on the ease of installation. The only negative I can think of is that when the weather is cold outside, you can feel air draft around the unit on the counter top. March 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by We are very pleased with the Broan downdraft range ventilator This product does exactly what we expected it to do, was easy to install and is attractive to the eye without being obvious with it presents. February 20, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Downdraft We were shown this model by our salesperson, after a different sales person had tried to get us to buy an expensive GE Profile model. We compared stats and found this to be quite comparable, and several HUNDRED dollars cheaper . It has done everything we have wanted so far, and would recommend this to others February 20, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Broan downdraft ventilation system I had model 273003 for twenty years in my house. It is an outstanding product. I never had to have anything repaired on it. My cooktop was on an island and I did not want an overhead hood type exhaust. We are currently building a new home and I am definitely having the same system installed. Great Product. March 20, 2013

Should there be more noise with the lower speed setting vs. the high speed setting?

We just installed the 273603 and when we turn it on, we have more noise and vibration at the lower settings. We have to go to about 80% to get a more efficient quieter blower. Is this normal or do we need to adjust something?

What are the actual dimensions of the chimney housing and blower housing?

     on 273003
I know that the overall width is 26-1/4" and with the blower housing, it has a depth of 7", and is 29-1/2" tall, but what about the height of the blower housing and the depth of the chimney housing. These can be critical dimensions when trying to locate the appliance inside the cabinet and align with ductwork, electrical wiring, electrical boxes, gas valves, and gas lines.

    Answer:
Thank you for your question on the model 273603 down draft kitchen ventilation system. The 273603 has a built-in 500 CFM blower. The model 283603 would use an external or in-line blower. To reduce the risk of fire and electrical shock, we recommend that you install the downdraft only with Broan exterior blower models 331H, 332H or Broan in-line blower models HLB3, HLB6, HLB9 or HLB11. We do not recommend the use of any other manufacturers blowers.

I would also like to do this because I have a drawer cabinet under the cooktop and that way I do not loose my drawers or have to modify them. The unit would be as close to the back of the cooktop as allowable by the drawers, probably about 2" away from the back of the cooktop itself

Thank you for your question. You can remove the filters by grasping and pulling the tab at the top of each filter. Once removed, the filters can be cleaned with a mild detergent solution or in a dishwasher. If you need further assistance, please contact our Technical Support group at 877-896-1119.

    Answer:
The installation instructions refer to taking off the blower box on the inside of the cabinet and vacuuming off motor. If there is grease build up on the blower wheel/blade you can wipe that off with a damp, soapy cloth. The unit would need to be taken apart if more cleaning is needed. Please contact Broan-NuTone Canada directly for more assistance at 888-882-7626.
