Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I bought this to replace a similar Broan hood that was installed when the house was built. Original hood was still working excellent (25 years later) but upgraded to stainless appliances and wanted a matching hood. Thanks to Broan for retaining the exact same hood (but with a stronger motor). It matched the old model exactly and was very easy to install. The unit is a very simple and effective design. I'm sure that even if I didn't have the same exact model that it would be very easy to install.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Features! The light dimming feature is really nice and the fan with different speeds is the greatest!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Durable, but many surfaces to clean We have one of these units that we installed in 1986, so it definitely has been durable. Problems: 1. Many surfaces underneath the hood are hard to reach and to clean. 2. Noisy and vibration buzzing. 3. The heat-sensitive blower control often seems to start up randomly. 4. Spot welds on one side failed, but I repaired easily with stainless screws. The good: 1. Dual blowers. 2. Filters can be cleaned in the dishwasher. 3. Easy to use controls with no goofy programming.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice features The blower on this model is adequate and the adjustable fan speed is a nice feature. It also has two light bulbs so our range is well lit. The filters are also easy to remove and clean. I would rate it a 7.5 on a scale of 1-10.

  • Can it use fluorescent bulbs or only incandescent? Had cleaning complaints?

I am wondering if compact fluorescent bulbs can be used in this hood or if only incandescent? And, am wondering if customers have complaints about cleaning under since it has a large flat area that would be needed frequent cleaning? I will be buying this model, but had those questions. Thanks.

I have owned this hood for 12+ years. • There is no problem using CF, or any standard A-base bulb less than 75w. The white plastic lens cuts too much light, though – I just don't use it. Tip: use a 7 watt & an 18 or 24w combination of CF bulbs in the two sockets; this facilitates "night light" and "bright" functions. Note: the exposed spiral tubes will get greasy, it may be worthwhile to use the CF lamp bulbs with an enclosing plastic cover. • The flat plate must be removed periodically to clean collected grease (4 screws), dependent on your cooking habits. The thin standard filters are not particularly effective, although in line with other residential grade hoods. In general, this is an attractive, mid-range hood with plenty of exhaust power for serious cooking on most range tops. The variable speed fan is perfect for dialing in noise-vs-performance settings. Although this hood has the option for venting back into the kitchen, it would be foolish to do so if you use your range for more than boiling water. Cons: • The light switch had to be replaced after 12 years of daily use. This necessitated total removal and major disasembly of the hood and a $50 part. I consider this poor engineering, yet typical in this price range. • It's no fun to clean, but what range hood is?

    Three prong plug

I have noticed some of the hoods have a three prong plug at Lowes and other retailers. Does this model come with a three prong plug?

Thank you for your question on the model 893004 range hood. The 893004 is designed to be hard wired to your house electrical system. This unit is not designed to be plugged in. An approved cord kit is available for purchase. Ask for model HCK44 at your local retailer or it can be purchased on the Broan website under the Shop for Parts Tab. Cost is $26.44. You can also call Customer Service at 800-558-1711.

    distance from range to hood

One more question before I purchase this hood, 893004. What is the recommended difference between the stove and the hood.? I would have about 20 1/2 inches from stove top to bottom of hood. The stove is just a four burner gas range, not a fancy one with hot burners. Thanks

Thank you for your question on the model 893004 range hood. For best capture of cooking impurities, it is recommended that the bottom of the range hood be between 18 and 24 inches above the cooking surface.

Is this model the equivalent of the Sears Kenmore model 5535 which is made by Broan?

I am trying to find out if Sears Kenmore model 5535 (30" range hood) has all of the exact same specificatons as does the Broan model 893004, 30" range hood. My understanding is that Broan is the manufacturer of the Sears model.

    New bulbs won't light.

I replaced a dead bulb. The new one blew up. Removed the what was left of the bulb and replaced with a new one. Now both new bulbs will not light. What might be the problem? Checked Electrical panel. Blower works.
