Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great the variable speed is awesome. overpowered if anything. you can turn on full blast or at a slower quieter speed. fully removes all hot moist air from laundry/bath room. con-we have it installed between 2 bathrooms and you can see from one room to the other, needs some kind of screen to stop see through the vents are a little cheap but as long as they aren't messed with should be fine FYI I installed it in a 12" wall with some homemade venting. I just took a sheet of sheet metal and cut it to make a box within the wall and then popped in the fan. took about an hour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Broan 511 (Fans): Exhaust Fan Utility We have been pleased with the fans. The rooms seem cooler, and, although we can hear the fans when they are operating, the noise is not offensive.

  • My wall is too thick for this fan. 512

I found out after I bought the fan and fully installed it that my wall is a little too thick for the fan. I can't get the other grill on and I have about an inch of open space around the fan (it's blowing into the wall) Is there a way to get around this without buying a different fan? Thanks, Dan
    Asked by: Dan
"Use a different unit? " - that doesn't seem too helpful. They don't even suggest another, applicable Broan product? (smh) Dan, I would suggest to measure the ducting and try to find suitable extension with the same diameter at your local parts house. If you cannot find a suitable size, you may need to fabricate one from an oversized piece of ducting with a pair of tin snips and tek-screws. Keep in mind, that you may need to make the extension on both sides to create a good mate between the two halves. I am also struggling to find a through wall fan to fit a 7.5" wall in my shop. You would think Broan would offer an extension duct that they could overcharge us for. have a nice day!

Can a thermostat be used with the 511 to have it automically kick on and shut off?

I have a wine cellar where the through the wall cooling unit is dumping the warm air into a living space. I would like to dump some of that warm air into an unfinished space. The cooling unit is not on 100% of the time so the fan would not need to be on 100% of the time.

Thank you for your question on the model 511 through the wall exhaust fan. You can use the 511 with a line switchable thermostat.

can I add 4" ductwork to vent this fan outside

I am looking for a sidewall vent fan for a log cabin. The fan needs to be a wall mount fan but have 4" piping so that it can be run up the wall. I am a hvac contractor so I understand static pressure.
    Asked by: Mark
Thank you for your question regarding the 510 exhaust fan. This unit cannot be connected to 4 inch duct to be vented outside. If you are looking for a wall mounted exhaust fan that can be ducted with 4 inch duct, we would recommend the LP80. If you need further assistance, please call Technical Support at 1-800-637-1453.

I put in a aluminum grease screen from one of your kitchen vents but we can still see through. do you sell a non see through screen for model 510 I asked this question before but under the wrong model the 509s so it wasn't answered correctly

Thank you for your question on the model 510 through the wall fan. The aluminum grease screen (part number 97010271) would be the only filter available for this unit.

Can I hook two of these to the same variable speed control switch?

Wondering if there is any issue with hooking up two of these unit to the same variable speed switch.
    Asked by: FanMan
Thank you for your question on the model 512 room to room fan. You can control the speed of the 512 with a solid state speed control, but we would only recommend using one fan per speed control.
